Data Integration to Support Ease of Doing Business in Indonesia

JAKARTA, NMN – In order to improve port services by using information and technology, Directorate-General of Marine Traffic and Indonesia National Single Window (INSW) agreed to cooperate in data exchange and synergy in supporting the realisation of ease of doing business in Indonesia.

The cooperation aims to strengthen the existing online services, transforming the old method gradually.

“Digitalisation is a must if we want to improve port competitiveness and services even better. It also will support the ease of doing business in Indonesia which needs supports from any party within the industry,” said Director-General of Marine Transport, Capt. Wisnu Handoko, today (11/3).

The cooperation itself was a result of the limited discussion between Director-General of Marine Transport, Capt. Wisnu Handoko, and Deputy of Inter-institutional of Indonesia National Single Window (INSW), Harmen Sembiring.

“The two agreed to support the Ease of Doing Business (EODB) in Indonesia and face the challenges through the establishment of Single Window Unit Service (ULSW) that stipulated on Presidential Regulation No. 44/2018 concerning the coordination of Ministry of Transportation working units and PP-INSW,” said Capt. Wisnu.

The synergy included the alignment of UN/LOCODE (the United Nations Code for Trade and Transport Locations) with the Ministry of Transportation serves as the National Focal Point.

At present, not all ports in Indonesia have verified UN/LOCODE used by ministries/ agencies. It is necessary to align for the simplification and harmonisation of the export-import declaration.

“In the future, the three agendas will be a priority for the Ministry of Transportation and INSW and expected to provide improvements in EODB which in time will be able to reduce logistics costs,” Capt Wisnu said.

Capt. Wisnu stressed out that there is no reason not to make the best use of information technology for a better change.

“DG of Sea Transport concerns on IT-based services, thus all stakeholders supports are essential in terms of reaching the goal in improving IT-based services at ports,” closed Capt. Wisnu.

For information, Ease of Doing Business (EODB) is an index published by the World Bank. The ease of doing business index is meant to measure regulations directly affecting businesses and does not directly measure more general conditions such as a nation’s proximity to large markets, quality of infrastructure, inflation, or crime. As a method, an annual survey conducted by the EODB team, involving experts from 190 countries around the world.
